I'm getting buds on some of the seedlings

This is year 2 on these plants...hoping all will bloom. I have some plicata X broken color crosses, and have crossed My Girl Molly with some bitones, and reds to see what will transpire. I've had very good luck crossing My Girl Molly, with fantastic bicolor, and bitone color blends resulting. Some have shown vigorous increase as well. So I especially look forward to this year's My Girl Molly Tall Bearded Iris crosses.

The dwarfs are in bloom and the talls will bloom soon!

I've been out today spraying weed killer and the ever-present clover and grass tries, and sometimes succeeds in invading my 1/4 acre patch of irises. This time of year is always so exciting as there are new seedlings that should bloom this year, in fact...a lot of them! Last year's crop brought some great results, and a few worthy of registration which I have not done yet, but will once I have enough of them. If things proceed well, hopefully I can re-enter the market and try to sell some of my own hybrids in about three years. In the meantime, just keeping up with this ever growing patch of iris is some serious work! As the new flowers open, and I proceed with documentation of size, color, type, and vigor, I'll post up some photos of the more promising results. Culling is the hard part. I find it very difficult to dig them up, and throw them away. So if you would like some free pretty irises, let me know. They can be yours just for the cost of shipment. If you would like to swap for something I have that I don't already have in the garden I have plenty of swapping material. Many dwarf, and talls...in trade for broken color, or plicatas, also looking for vivid pinks.

Spring has sprung and the iris are up and thriving..

We are threatened tonight and tomorrow with possible below freezing temperatures. I'm literally holding my breath that the irises won't get bit. I have two big rows of seedlings which I'm waiting for bloom for the first time. I'm anxious to see some of these crosses as many are plicata X broken color which gives me a shot at broken color off spring. I've produced several broken color irises which I've not registered yet and one that I have (Mookie Prance has broken color standards and plicata falls). The iris bloom is my favorite, FAVORITE time of the year. Camera and notebook in hand, you will find me in the garden. ~Jacke of Iris Acre Farm
